Happy New Year! There seems to be a lot of that going around this time of year. Our standard greeting is replaced by this special only-once-a-year wish for those we meet. Does it seem more heartfelt this year? In this down economy when so many are hurting, the hope brought on by a new year seems much more of a necessity than when times were really good. For me, that's what I love most about a new year: the hope that it brings with the clean slate.

Technically I suppose, each new day is a fresh slate. With each new dawn comes hope that we'll be able to right everything that's wrong, turn over a new leaf, keep those New Year's resolutions we made, just fight the good fight. But with the turn of the calendar from December to January, it becomes so much more than that. It's more of a feeling of starting out fresh, leaving the baggage behind, forgiving and forgetting all that drags us down, and being open to new opportunities and a new outlook on life.

So when you welcome in 2010 at Midnight tonight, may you do so with all the optimism of a totally frest start. Hope-y New Year!
